You Have Done a Good Job - President Nkurunziza Tells EALA Speaker

The Head of State remarked that EALA had made significant contributions to the integration process and noted the Assembly’s sustained efforts to place the EAC on the map as a successful economic bloc.
The President made the remarks when he met with the EALA Speaker, Rt. Hon Abdirahin Abdi at the President’s Office in Bujumbura, Burundi yesterday.  

President Nkurunziza termed the EALA Speaker, Rt. Hon Abdirahin Abdi, a visionary leader for his astute stewardship of the Assembly over the last five years.

‘You have done a good job Mr. Speaker.  Even as your term and that of the 2nd Assembly comes to an end, remember that Burundi is your home. Please feel welcome whenever you visit us’, the Head of State remarked.

President Nkurunziza further noted that he was elated by the existing relations between EALA and the Burundi National Assembly which he termed cordial and progressive.

The Speaker on his part, lauded the President for his farsighted leadership and noted that Burundi had continued to immensely benefit from the integration process.  The Speaker lauded President Nkurunziza for the support rendered to EALA and noted that he (President Nkurunziza) had at all times affirmatively responded to EALA invitations.

The EALA Speaker who is expected to step down in June 2012, was on a two day official visit in the capital to bid farewell to the Head of State. The Speaker is expected to tour all the capitals on the same mission.

The Partner States have been holding its elections in the Partner States in readiness for the inauguration of the 3rd Assembly expected for June 5, 2012. Already, the Republic of Burundi and the United Republic of Tanzania have elected their representatives to the 3rd Assembly.   Other Partner States have also engaged in the process.

Later on, the Speaker called on the Speaker of the Burundi National Assembly, Rt. Hon Pie Ntavyohanyuma in a meeting that delved on the relations between the Burundi National Assembly and EALA.
