Parliament of Uganda Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anita Among meets EALA Speaker Rt. Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana

…Rt Hon Ntakirutimana also pays Deputy Speaker a courtesy call, then meets with First Deputy Prime Minister for EAC Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.

Rt. Hon. Anita Among, Speaker of Parliament of Ugandalast week held cordial discussions with the EALA Speaker, Rt Hon Joseph Ntakirutimana in Kampala, Uganda.

The Speaker urged EALA to fast-track the passing of laws that will enhance the visibility of EALA in the EAC region as well as promote integration.

She further noted that once the relevant laws are passed by EALA, they should be forwarded to Partner States' parliaments for domestication.

She called on EALA to increase the visibility of the Assembly by carrying out sensitization activities in the EAC region.

On his part, Speaker of EALA, Rt. Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana, called for harmony and tolerance among all EALA Members. 

The Speaker of EALA also decried the financial challenges affecting the regional assembly. 

He requested his counterpart to assist him in articulating the issue among other Speakers in the region with the aim of harmonizing the facilitation of Members across the region.

He thanked Rt. Hon. Anita Among for her good gesture in hosting Members of EALA for dinner at her residence.

While still at the Parliament of Uganda, the Speaker of EALA, Rt. Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Speaker, Parliament of Uganda, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa.

Hon. Tayebwa urged the Speaker of EALA to lead his Assembly to pass laws that will drastically reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers experienced in the EAC region especially in the area of trade. 

He also called on EALA to come up with a resolution that would compel the Council to impress upon their respective Partner States to comply with the Summit directive of May 2016 that established the Common Higher Education Area, under the Common Market Protocol.

EALA Speaker, Rt. Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana, also paid a courtesy call on the First Deputy Prime Minister for EAC Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga. The two discussed the importance of ensuring that there’s harmony between the Members of the Fifth Assembly. 

Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga pledged her full support to the Speaker of EALA and assured him that she would engage Members of the Council in trying to find a solution to the disharmony between some members of EALA and especially the DRC chapter that refused to join other members in Kampala for an induction programme.
