A hat-trick by Hon Muhammad Nsereko enabled the Parliament of Uganda to beat hosts, Parliament of Burundi in an entertaining match at Prince loius Rwagasore yesterday. But it took a resilient Uganda to overcome the hosts who started the match on a high note. Hon Aime Nkurunziza put Parliament of Burundi on the lead with a well curved shot that beat the Parliament of Uganda’s goalkeeper in the 4th minute of the match.
Captain, Hon Otto Odonga equalised for Uganda shortly when he pounced on a loose ball to send a screaming shot into the net. The goal saw Uganda pile on the pressure making constant raids on the Burundi defence. Hon Nsereko was on the mark a minute to half time to give Uganda a 2-1 lead.
On resumption, Hon Nsereko added a third goal as Burundi continued to soak in more pressure. In the dying minutes, Hon Balikudembe JB dribbled past the midfield to lay a pass to Hon Nsereko who calmly beat the Parliament of Burundi goalkeeper for the forth goal.
Earlier on, EAC/EALA took the third place after beating Parliament of Kenya 2-1 in an entertaining match. Kenya scored first through Hon Victor Munyaka before striker Meshack Nyambele replied for EAC/EALA in the 18th minute. Nyambele was on the mark again after beating the backline of Kenya.
For all his antics, Meshack Nyambele was awarded the golden boot for scoring a total of 4 goals in the entire tournament. Uganda’s Hon Balikudembe JB was awarded as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) while Burundi was awarded the fair play. All participants received trophies. The first three teams were awarded with medals and trophies by the guests who included Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga (Speaker, Parliament of Uganda), Rt Hon Pie Ntavyohanyuma (Speaker, Burundi National Assembly) and EALA Speaker, Rt. Hon Abdirahin Abdi.
The 9 day tournament marked part of the celebrations for the 10th Anniversary celebrations.
