National Assembly of Kenya, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetangula meets EALA Speaker Rt. Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana

The EAC Council of Ministers should consider enhancing the budget allocation to the EALA to cater for its increased membership as well the activities of the Assembly. 

That was the clarion call by the Rt. Hon. Joseph Nrakirutimana, when he paid a courtesy call on the two Speakers of Parliament of Kenya. Rt. Hon. Joseph Nrakirutimana, also called on the full implementation of the Administration of EALA Act, 2012, which granted the Assembly financial and administrative autonomy.  “The delayed implementation of the autonomy has impeded the implementation of the activities of the Assembly,” he said. 

On the other hand, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetangula, congratulated the Speaker of EALA for his election to steer the Fifth EALA. 

Rt. Hon. Amason Kingi, Speaker of the Senate promised to collaborate with the Speaker of EALA in ensuring that the regional Assembly gets back on track in terms of steering regional parliaments in harmonising their laws as well as carrying out outreach activities.

The leaders of the respective legislatures were meeting at the Parliament of Kenya buildings, Nairobi. In attendance were Members of EALA, Kenya Chapter, represented by Hon. Omar Hassan, Hon. Zipporah Kering and Hon. Kanini Kega.
