EAC HQ. ARUSHA, Tanzania, June 10, 2026 — The Rt.Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana, The Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly has called an Extraordinary Meeting of the Bureau of EAC Speakers to address pressing matters surrounding the hosting of the 2026 EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games. The meeting starts tomorrow, Friday, 12th June 2026, at the East African Community Headquarters in Arusha, commencing at 11:00 AMEast African Time, and will be conducted in a hybrid format to accommodate both physical and virtual participation. This will be preceded by the meeting of the Clerks of the Partner States parliaments.
The invitation, extended by the Rt. Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana, Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, has been extended to the Speakers of all Partner State parliaments and houses across the Community. These include the National Assembly and Senate of Burundi; the National Assembly and Senate of the Democratic Republic of Congo; the National Assembly and Senate of Kenya; the Chamber of Deputies and Senate of Rwanda; the House of the People and Senate of Somalia; the Transitional National Legislative Assembly and Council of States of South Sudan; the National Assembly of Tanzania; and the Parliament of Uganda.
For delegations electing to attend in person, a staggered arrival schedule has been established. Clerks are expected to arrive on Wednesday, 10th June 2026, while the Rt. Hon. Speakers are scheduled to arrive on Thursday, 11th June 2026.
The Extraordinary Meeting reflects the commitment of the EAC's legislative organs to collaborative and timely decision-making on matters of collective importance. The Inter-Parliamentary Games represent more than a sporting competition; they serve as a vital platform for informal dialogue, relationship-building, and the deepening of regional integration among lawmakers across East Africa.
