Arusha, Tanzania- September 3, 2025- The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Commission has approved the EALA Calendar of Activities for the Financial Year 2025/2026 in a virtual meeting held today in Arusha, marking a pivotal step in advancing regional integration and legislative oversight within the East African Community (EAC).
The approved calendar outlines a full slate of plenary sessions, committee deliberations, budget discussions, oversight missions, and other essential engagements scheduled throughout the year and into next year. Activities are planned to take place across partner states, with selective virtual components to broaden participation and inclusivity.
In move to strengthen strategic coherence, the Commission also announced that the EALA Strategic Plan period that ends in 2024, be extended to 2027, aligning the assembly’s strategic horizon with the broader EAC development strategy. This extension is intended to ensure policy coherence, disciplined budgeting, and more effective oversight of regional initiatives, enabling EALA to deliver tangible outcomes that reflect the region’s priorities. This extension to 2027 also aims to synchronize EALA’s objectives with the EAC development pathway, a step expected to enhance the efficacy of legislative oversight and the implementation of regional programs.
