Arusha, Tanzania — June 13, 2026 — The Secretary General of the East African Community, Hon. Amb. Stephen Patrick Mbundi, today appeared before the General-Purpose Committee of the East African Legislative Assembly to present the EAC Budget Policy Statement for the Financial Year 2026/2027, a statutory requirement under the EAC Budget Act.
The session went beyond a routine presentation, evolving into a substantive engagement during which the Committee briefed the Secretary General on its preliminary findings from the ongoing budget scrutiny and deliberated with him on matters of strategic importance for the future of the Community.
Presenting under the theme "Deepening Regional Integration and Economic Resilience through Improved Regional Security, Domestic Revenue Mobilization and Digital Transformation for Inclusive Growth," Amb. Mbundi outlined a proposed budget of USD 110,863,576, with 58 per cent (USD 64,768,033) to be financed by Partner States and 42 per cent (USD 46,095,543) expected from Development Partners
