EA Assembly to Hold Sitting in Kampala, Uganda

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) is scheduled to hold it’s 2nd Meeting of the 4th  Session in the Chambers of the Parliament of Uganda from 6th  - 17th December 2010. H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda is expected to address the Assembly on Wednesday 8 December 2010 at 2.30 P.M on a wide range of issues pertaining to the EAC integration.

The Assembly to be presided over by the Speaker, Hon Abdirahin Haithar Abdi, will among others receive and swear in the newly appointed Tanzanian Minister for East African Community Affairs, Hon. Samwel Sita together with Hon Nsabimana Yves and Hon.Bucumi Emerence both from the Republic of Burundi as new Members to the EALA.

The meeting will also debate the Administration of EALA Bill 2010, the EAC Service Commission Bill 2010, the LVBC Bill, 2007 and to consider proposed amendments to the Inter-University Council for East Africa Bill, 2010.

The session will also include receiving reports from the various Committees notably the;

  • Oversight Report on EAC Projects, RV Jumuiya and LVBC MERECP Kenya;
  • The Report on the adherence to the provisions of the EAC treaty;
  • Report on Politics of food security in East Africa;
  • Report of the workshop on: ” A Policy Framework Towards improving the Status of the Youth in East Africa”;
  • Report on mining Legislation in East Africa and
  • Report on Trade Harmonization.

There will also be a question and answer session by the Members of EALA to the chairperson of the Council of Ministers.
