EAST AFRICAN LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY

In the context of the East African Legislative Assembly, “petition” means a written prayer or plea presented to the Assembly; and includes all similar submissions whether relating to public or private matters of general policy, or to redress local or personal grievances.

It is introduced by a Member of the Assembly in the House on behalf of the person(s) seeking the intervention of the Assembly over those contentious matters raised therein.

The 2nd Assembly is yet to formally entertain and debate any petition. However, Committees are increasingly being engaged by individuals, companies and organizations on matters of the EAC Integration which affect them, especially in the applicability of the operational principles of the Customs Union.
